CONNECT THROUGH WORSHIP AT MAIN STREET

A church with a history in the community and a heart for the future.

A Place To BELONG

Main Street is one of the most historic churches in Suffolk (founded in 1801), we are also a church that is vibrant, alive and new. Our congregation comes from all walks of life, from young to old, newcomers to life-long members.

Main Street offers three worship services each Sunday:

8:30 am Worship
A low-key way to start your Sunday. Enjoy the beauty of the morning as the sun lights up the Ascension window (the large stained glass window in the image).

11:00 am Worship
A larger attendance with formal processional, acolytes, and Chancel Choir. Other opportunities for participating in worship are listed below.

6:00 pm Worship
Join us in the main atrium for a contemporary, encouraging place to connect.

A NEW WORSHIP EXPERIENCE

Connect has a vision and a passion to reach people where they are, by meeting the needs of a changing world. We reach out to the every day church goer as well as anyone dealing with church hurt, misunderstanding of church, too many questions about church, or people who feel like they just don’t have enough time for church. The music is lead by a band with a focus on creating a comfortable environment. We would love to connect with you.

Join us each Sunday as we celebrate God and glorify his name in praise

Here are some opportunities to be involved in our worship.

Ushers
Ushers greet and provide bulletins to worshipers as they arrive each Sunday and assist them in finding a seat. They assist worshipers with hearing devices, large-print hymnals, and related needs which make the worship experience meaningful. Ushers also collect the offering during the worship services.

Greeters
Greeters are stationed at the main entrance to the Atrium and Narthex. They extend a warm welcome and provide directions as necessary.

Worship Planning Team
The Worship Planning Team coordinates the work of all of the ministries listed in this section and works with the pastor to plan worship.

Acolytes
At the 11:00 am service acolytes bring in the cross and light the altar candles at the beginning of worship an extinguish them at the close of worship. One of our young acolytes in training carries a Bible to the altar.

Altar Guild
Members of the Altar Guild see that the sanctuary is ready for worship each Sunday.

Worship Leaders
Those in this ministry may be asked to lead worship by making announcements, reading scripture and leading a prayer during worship. Lay Readers are needed for the 8:30 and 11:00 am services.

Decorating Committee
This group decorates the sanctuary for special occasions of the church year, including Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter.

Photographers
Photographers are needed to take pictures of new members when they join the church as well as other events in the life of the church.

Technology Team
Audio and video operators are needed each week to run the sound board and other equipment that may be needed during the 8:30 and 11:00 am services.
