Myrtle Frances Hatcher
Senior Pastor

A native of Staunton, Virginia, Myrtle Hatcher has been the pastor of Main Street since 2011. After graduating from Duke Divinity School, Pastor Myrtle served at a variety of churches in the Hampton Roads area. She eventually became the District Superintendent of the Peninsula District. She has been an Elder in the Virginia Conference since 1988 and has also served as an adjunct professor at Paul D. Camp Community College. Pastor Myrtle is married to John Hatcher and enjoys crafts, sewing, jigsaws puzzles, and cooking.

Barbara McPhail
Director of Congregational Care

As a lifetime member of Main Street UMC and staff member since 2003, it has been Barbara's great joy to serve as Congregational Care Coordinator. Her desire is to make sure our members are well cared for and our guests feel welcome on Sunday mornings. Barbara is also responsible for coordinating the many ministries at Main Street.

Barbara is blessed with a wonderful husband, Phil, 4 children and 5 grandchildren. She enjoys family time at the beach as much as possible!

Christine (Chris) Ward
Organist/Director of Music Ministries and Worship
Born and raised in Suffolk, Chris is a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, with a Bachelor Of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and Organ/Church Music. She has served two Suffolk churches, St Paul's Episcopal Church for 15 years and Main Street United Methodist Church for 26 years.

Chris is the proud mom of two adult children.  Doug has recently completed a masters degree in intelligence analysis.  Lee Anne and her husband, Joe, live in Cincinnati, OH, where Lee Anne is a community counselor.

Mark Popik
UMYF Coordinator

Mark has lived around the world, but his parents finally settled in Summerville, SC where he calls home. He is a US Navy veteran and graduated from Grantham University in 2008. Involved in Main Street's youth ministry since 2009; Mark became the UMYF Coordinator in September 2013.

A couple things you should know about Mark, one, the teens occasionally act more mature than Mark, and two, let it be known that when your child joins our group, he or she will become Mark's child! He truly loves his kids!

Mark and his bride, Teresa, have lived in Suffolk since 2005. They have a wonderful blended family of 5 sons, 1 daughter, and 3 grandchildren. Mark and Teresa happily joined the Main Street family in 2009.

Karen Waddell
Children's Resource Coordinator

Karen is a native of Vienna, Illinois. She is a graduate of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA, obtaining both her undergraduate and Master's degree in Music Education from NSU. She has served as Director of Bands at Lake Taylor Middle School since September of 2011. Karen and her husband, Adam, have one child, Michaela. Karen became Children's Resource Coordinator at Main Street in October 2012.

Wendy Perry
Administrative Assistant

Wendy was born in Indiana and raised in Sanford, Michigan. She moved to Virginia in 1979 and has lived in Isle of Wight County for most of those years with her husband and high school sweetheart, Bob. They have 3 daughters and 7 grandsons. Her interests include technology, sewing, shopping, decorating. Wendy is thrilled that her faith adventure has brought her to Main Street. Wendy has been a member of the Main Street staff since February 2015.

Herman Terrell

Herman has been a member of the Main Street staff since 1991. He is married to Evelyn, one of our Day Care employees, and they have 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is active at Mount Lebanon Church of God and Christ where he serves as associate minister, President of the male choir and usher boards, and is a member of the Pastor's aid committee. When he is not serving God through the ministries of Main Street and his home church he enjoys sports and spending time with his family.
